Eating healthy is serious business especially in Nigeria when a lot of our common meals are consumed in unhealthy proportions. If you have attempted to eat in a healthy way, you will find this story hilarious.
A couple was married for over 60 years and lived in Ibadan. They weren’t exactly rich, but managed their pensions and ate healthily. They were really healthy for people of that age, and it was mainly because of the wife’s love for eating healthy and regular exercise. She pushed her husband to take strolls with her in the morning and evenings and made sure he had enough vegetables and fruits to go with his healthy meals.
On one fateful day, they decided to go on a short vacation to Abuja and their bus had an accident and they died and were sent to the pearly gates of heaven.
On reaching the gate, St. Peter escorted them into heaven, and he led them to a beautiful mansion which was decorated with silk and gold. It had a fully stocked pantry with a master bath. The house came with a maid to help them do all their chores around the mansion.
The couple was excited as they were welcomed to heaven officially. The old man wasn’t sure of what was happening so he asked Peter how much they had to pay for the mansion. Peter replied and told him that they didn’t owe anything for the house and reminded them that this was their reward in heaven.
The old man looked around again and saw a beautiful Olympic size swimming pool with a large screen TV by the side. He looked up and saw light so he asked if PHCN was in charge of heaven’s light and Peter assured him that he wouldn’t have to suffer power outages anymore since heaven uses celestial lights and not PHCN. The old man was overjoyed and started dancing. He never imagined that he could enjoy light at any time he wanted without having to worry about bills or heavy rain putting out the power.
St. Peter allowed the man and his wife to move around their new home while he escorted them. They went to a bar and saw a buffet lunch with every single cuisine placed before them. They had seafood, pork, steak, goat meat (Asun), goat head (isi ewu), African salad (Abacha), Nkwobi, shaki, amala, ewagoyin, and more.
The old man asked again what it would cost to partake in it, and Peter told him again that he had been rewarded with everything he sees before him and it was all free to enjoy. He then took a look at his wife and asked for the low-fat dairy products, non-alcoholic drinks and vegetables as he used to eat while he was on earth. St. Peter replied him again and said that they didn’t have any need to eat healthy anymore since they cannot get sick or fat in heaven.
The old man still asked if he needed to have his blood pressure checked and Peter replied that there was no need for that as people didn’t fall sick in Heaven.
He looked at his wife and said.
“You and you healthy eating and exercising, we would have been sent here over ten years ago.”
